Akira Yoshizawa 吉泽章

Akira Yoshizawa is widely considered the father of modern origami art.

The son of a farmer, he devoted his life to his art, living in poverty as he perfected his craft and developed thousands of new designs.

The same year, he founded the International Origami Center in Tokyo and began holding origami exhibitions overseas, serving as a cultural ambassador for Japan.

In his last decades Yoshizawa received worldwide recognition for his contributions; he wrote 17 more books on origami and in 1983 Emperor Hirohito awarded him the Order of the Rising Sun.
